“Healthy mothers are children’s first line of defense against death, malnutrition, and a cycle of poverty and disease. In much of the world, every person has close relatives and friends who have died or will die from lack of maternity care.” – Miriam Labbok, MD, MPH & Chief, Nutrition and Maternal Health Division, USAID
Maternal health has a lasting impact on a newborn baby. According to savethechildren.org, “Each year, an estimated 515,000 women die from complications of pregnancy and childbirth (99% of these in developing countries).”
As we celebrate National Women’s Month, and in recognizing the journey of motherhood, QualiMed Hospital-STR invited moms-to-be in a health fora event entitled “Healthy Motherhood” last March 17, 2018. There was a series of discussion which included tips on how to be healthy during pre-natal care and danger signs of pregnancy.
Special thanks to QualiMed Hospital – STR doctors namely Dr. Guadalupe Villanueva, Dr. Joy Lan Marie Magbanua, and Dr. Pauline Antonette Reyes for sharing their time. We would also like to recognize the participation of the health workers from Barangay Inchican.
